(Washington, DC) – Today, Representative Daniel Webster (FL-10) issued the following statement following his vote in favor of H.Res. 676, a resolution providing for authority to initiate litigation for actions by the President or other executive branch officials inconsistent with their duties under the Constitution of the United States:

“Today the House of Representatives authorized the Speaker to enter into litigation against the President for not respecting the constitutional separation of powers put in place by our Founders. These separation of powers were meant to defend liberty from the overreach of a zealous Executive Branch. However, this action is bigger than this President or this Speaker.

“I took no joy in casting this vote, but in bypassing the American people’s elected legislative representatives, the President undermines the very Constitution he is sworn to uphold.”
