Webster on Trump v. Hawaii Decision

Washington, DC - Today, Florida Congressman Daniel Webster (R-Clermont) released the following statement about the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on Trump v. Hawaii.

“Yesterday, the Supreme Court fulfilled their responsibility in the manner envisioned by our Founding Fathers and Constitution.  They focused on the law and U.S. Constitution and based on their readings decided that nowhere in the final proclamation issued by the Trump Administration did it include religious bias. They further found that the President acted in a matter of national security.

“Protecting Americans from foreign threats is a fundamental responsibility of the office of the President of the United States. On, September 24, 2017 President Trump signed a proclamation halting travel between the United States and seven countries deemed by Congress and President Obama’s administration to be a threat to national security.

“Speaking for the majority, Justice Roberts wrote, '[the ban] … is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices.'

“I am thankful President Trump has taken responsibility to protect our country seriously and put Americans’ safety first.
