House Passes Webster’s Coast Guard Bill
July 23, 2025
Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives advanced one of Rep. Webster’s legislative priorities by passing H.R. 4275 the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025, which strengthens America’s maritime security and establishes a Secretary of the Coast Guard to ensure the USCG continues its critical missions to safeguard the Nation’s borders, facilitate maritime commerce, and ensure maritime safety.
“The United States Coast Guard plays a critical role in protecting our national security,” said Rep. Webster. “From defending our maritime borders against drug traffickers and illegal mass immigration from the Caribbean, to countering Chinese aggression in the Indo-Pacific, the brave men and women of the Coast Guard safeguard the American people and protect our nation from maritime threats."
The Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025 Authorizes funding through fiscal year 2029 to expand operational capabilities and address critical infrastructure needs by supporting the ongoing recapitalization of its cutter fleet, aviation assets, shoreside facilities, and IT capabilities. The bill also modernizes the Coast Guard’s acquisition process to increase transparency and accountability and open pathways for next-generation autonomous technology. It ensures the Coast Guard remains a priority for future administrations by establishing the Secretary of the Coast Guard which also provides parity with other armed services.
Webster further commented, “The Coast Guard Authorization Act builds on the historic investments made in the One Big Beautiful Bill to provide the resources needed to ensure our Coast Guard has the ships, manpower, and tools to respond to emergencies, protect our maritime borders, and secure American maritime sovereignty.”
This bill was introduced by Rep Webster, past chairman and current senior member of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation subcommittee along with Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO), Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA), current Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee Chairman Mike Ezell (R-MS), and Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee Ranking Member Salud Carbajal (D-CA).
