Representative Daniel Webster (FL-10) issued the following statement after co-sponsoring H.Res. 36, a resolution introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf establishing a select committee to investigate and report on the attack on the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Libya:

“Over one year ago, terrorists attacked the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing four of our diplomats including the U.S. Ambassador. Since that time, no arrests have been made and no justice has been served. U.S. Embassies and Consulates must be defended and attacks on Americans cannot go unanswered. The failure of our nation’s leaders to provide military support to our brave foreign service members who were killed in that attack and to deliver justice for their family members in the weeks and months since that day is unacceptable.

“For this reason, I have cosponsored H.Res. 36, legislation forming a select committee to expeditiously investigate and definitively report on the terrorist attacks that claimed four American lives. Over a year later, important questions remain unanswered. It is my hope that this committee will shine a light on that dark day and bring justice for four American patriots and their loved ones. Our countrymen who serve on the frontlines of diplomacy and work to advance our nation’s interests must know that we will provide whatever resources are needed to ensure their safety. Those who seek to harm them and to sabotage American interests must know that America will never rest until justice has been carried out,”
said Rep. Webster.
