Webster and Over 100 Republican Colleagues Introduce Legislation to Block Iran From Accessing $6 Billion in Funds
October 13, 2023
Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, along with Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), and over 100 Republican colleagues, introduced legislation to block Iran, the largest state-sponsor or terror, from accessing the $6 billion in funds that the Biden Administration unfroze on September 11, 2023. This legislation comes in response to the deadly terrorist attacks in Israel carried out by Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists.
“Iran cannot be trusted,” said Rep. Webster. “As the world’s largest state-sponsor of terrorism, Iran is a proven opponent of U.S. interests, international security, and universal values of liberty. While the Biden Administration claims to have a ‘quiet understanding’ with Qatar to prevent the release of these funds, Congress must take action to ensure Iran never has access to these funds.”
H.R.5947 freezes the $6billion sanctioned funds from being accessed by Iran. Rep. Webster and a bipartisan group of members have also urged President Biden to take specific actions to block Iran’s access to these funds.
