Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, legislation cosponsored by Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, that would permanently place fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs.

“The fentanyl crisis continues to ravage our country and communities, accounting for a majority of drug overdose deaths in the United States,” said Rep. Webster. “The flood of fentanyl-related substances into our country – largely through the southern border has claimed far too many lives. By permanently classifying fentanyl-related substances as a Schedule I drugs, this legislation ensures law enforcement has the tools needed to crack down on traffickers and keep these dangerous drugs out of our communities.”
