Webster Announces Congressional Art Competition Winners

(Winter Garden, FL) – Each spring, U.S. Representative Daniel Webster sponsors a local high school art competition as part of a nationwide program designed to recognize and encourage young artistic talent. The winning artist and a guardian will be flown up to Washington, D.C., and their entry will be prominently displayed in the main walkway from House Office Buildings to the Capitol, the Cannon Tunnel, where it is viewed for an entire year by Members of Congress, staff, and visitors from around the country. The remaining winners will have their artwork displayed in Congressman Webster’s offices in Washington, Winter Garden, Tavares, Clermont, and Winter Haven.
Today, Rep. Webster announced the winners from his district. The grand prize was awarded to Victor Fan from Dr. Phillips High School, and first runner up went to Josiah Bender from Lake Minneola High School. Individual county winners included Jean Bezerra, Lea Warren, and Analiese Majetich for Orange County; and Annabelle Pullen, Vy Mai, and Yazmina Williams for Lake County. Webster went to the high schools today to personally congratulate the winners, and issued the following statement:
“This year, we received an overwhelming amount of quality artwork submitted from our community’s high school students, and celebrated the highest participation rate so far in our annual Congressional Art Competition. The record turnout is a reflection of the emphasis that our Central Florida schools are placing on the arts, and I am pleased to be a part of encouraging the next generation of artistic talent. America is full of natural beauty, and I was honored to encourage our young people to recognize, celebrate, and portray our beautiful country through so many different styles and artistic mediums.
“In addition to recognizing the hard work and talent of these students, I want to extend my personal appreciation to the art class teachers and school administrators who supported this contest and are working to ensure that the next generation of artists are able to flourish and enrich our community.”
The theme for Representative Webster’s 2014 Congressional Art Competition was “The Natural Beauty of America,” based on the patriotic song, “America the Beautiful.” Photos of each entry and the art contest winner presentations can be viewed on Representative Webster’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
