(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Daniel Webster (FL-08) issued the following statement after passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013:

“This bipartisan measure will provide our men and women in uniform with the tools, support and financial resources necessary to continue to provide for the common defense of our nation in an increasingly dangerous world. Supporting our troops should be a bipartisan ideal. I am pleased that today the House of Representatives laid differences aside to pass this critical funding bill, which begins to restore fiscal sanity to our defense budget given the threats America faces,” said Webster.

The FY13 NDAA also:
  • Authorizes a 1.7% pay increase for our troops
  • Honors the commitment made to members of the Armed Services by rejecting the President’s proposals to increase or establish new TRICARE fees
  • Reaffirms without a shadow of a doubt the constitutional right of habeas corpus for all American citizens
  • Supports our key strategic allies, such as Israel, while ensuring continued military readiness and capability to combat the threat of international terrorism
  • Begins to restore fiscal sanity to the defense budget
