Representative Daniel Webster (FL-10) issued the following statement regarding passage of the No Subsidies Without Verification Act (H.R. 2775) by a bipartisan vote of 235 – 191 in the House of Representatives:

“The Obama Administration recently announced that when the government begins handing out taxpayer-funded subsidies for purchasing insurance on the Obamacare exchanges it will be unable to verify recipients’ actual eligibility. Without this critical legislation, oversight of the issuance of Obamacare insurance subsidies will initially be reduced to a recipient ‘honor system’ that could put taxpayers on the hook for billions of dollars in fraudulent claims.

"The No Subsidies Without Verification Act is common sense to most Americans: it simply says that anti-fraud measures required under law ought to work before taxpayer-funded Obamacare subsidies begin. Safeguarding your tax dollars from fraud and abuse is a fundamental responsibility of your elected officials, regardless of party or political affiliation. If the President and Senate won’t avert the coming ‘trainwreck’ that is Obamacare, they should at least join us in preventing fraud and protecting taxpayers during its implementation,”
said Webster.
