(Washington, DC) – Representative Daniel Webster (FL-10) issued the following statement after his co-sponsorship and vote in favor of H.R. 4031, the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act of 2014, which passed with overwhelming bipartisan support 390-33:

“We owe our veterans a debt of gratitude that we can never repay. As the depth of the scandal at the VA that has led to the untimely deaths of dozens of veterans continues to grow, it is unconscionable and completely unacceptable that the brave men and women who have put on the uniform and so faithfully served our country would be denied the timely, critical care and services we have promised to provide.

“Today, I voted in favor of the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act of 2014, which will empower the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to remove underperforming staffers, after providing Congress notification for the purpose of removal.

“Veterans deserve our deepest respect and it is intolerable that the personnel overseeing this charge would be so irresponsible and unsympathetic. It is similarly intolerable that these bad actors cannot be held accountable due to the constraints of current law. This bill relieves the Secretary of those constraints, and the Senate should not delay in sending it to the President for his signature.”
