Washington, D.C. — TodayFlorida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, released the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 5371, legislation that reopens the federal government.

“Today I voted to reopen the government, thereby ensuring our troops and federal employees are paid, and that vital programs for veterans and families continue. For 43 days, the American people have suffered the consequences of this government shutdown because Congressional Democrats’ obstruction.”

“Holding the government hostage over partisan demands hurts every American. While I’m pleased that this legislation finally ends the Democrats’ government shutdown, I will work with my House Republican colleagues to repeal a provision added in the Senate in response to the Biden Administration’s lawfare. Accountability is needed for the Biden Justice Department’s political targeting, but not at the expense of American taxpayers.”

“While I generally oppose Continuing Resolutions, this bill ensures that the government remains open and working for the American people while my colleagues and I finish working on appropriations bills. I am pleased that with this vote we are also approving the full-year appropriations for USDA, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and the Legislative Branch. These spending bills will fund critical priorities through the end of fiscal year 2026, supporting our farmers and rural communities, ensuring our veterans receive the services they have earned, strengthening national defense, and keeping Congress accountable to the American people. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on passing legislation that restores fiscal responsibility and puts our country first.”
