Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, released the following statement on the House’s second appropriations package, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024.

“I ran for office pledging to do my part to slow the spigot of spending. I supported the first appropriations package because it saves taxpayers more than $200 billion, protects veterans Second Amendment rights, stops the DOJ from targeting parents and cuts the budgets of the ATF, EPA, and DOJ.  While this second spending bill provides funds for priorities and programs I strongly support, I cannot support it because of excessive spending on non-critical programs and policies.

“While this legislation funds additional border technology and border patrol agents, there are no policy changes that force President Biden to reverse his failed policies and enforce current border laws. I owe it to my constituents to vote against legislation that lets President Biden spend more taxpayer dollars on his senseless immigration policies.

“I applaud Speaker Johnson for his hard work and am pleased funding is provided to construct additional United States Coast Guard ocean vessels. As Chairman of the subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, I know these investments are critical to the Coast Guard carrying out their missions, especially as they have repositioned assets in the Florida straits to interdict and repatriate those trying to illegally enter Florida’s shores.”
