Democrats Are Not Serious About Providing COVID-19 Relief
Washington, DC – Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, released the following statement about tonight’s vote on House Democrat’s latest partisan, so-called, COVID-19 relief bill
“Same song, second verse, Nancy Pelosi once again today chose politics over the American people. Today, House Democrats rejected numerous attempts by Republicans to pass legislation that could immediately provide more small businesses with access to PPP loans to stay afloat and rehire employees. Tonight, Pelosi once again insisted on spending taxpayer dollars on liberal wish-list items. This bill is not markedly different from her partisan giveaway bill from earlier this summer.”
Pelosi’s bill:
- Mandates a blanket release for certain federal prisoners and alleged criminals, while imposing a high burden for the government to prove they present a risk of harm to society upon release.
- Federalizes elections, with less than five weeks to election day, by including stringent, impossible to achieve mandates on how states must run elections, including early voting, no ID requirement for in-person voting, same-day registration, and no excuse vote by mail without safeguards or restrictions on ballot harvesting.
- Provides a tax break for millionaires and billionaires by repealing SALT limitations for 2020.
- Allows the marijuana industry to access banking services and products.
- Uses taxpayer dollars to bail out failing multiemployer pension plans while failing to include any needed reforms to fix the problem.
